About
Point Park University Summer Camps and Intensives offers a range of focused programs where students take part in activities such as creative writing, dramatic monologues, personal storytelling, Dungeons and Dragons, world building, quests, and storytelling. Other camps include hands-on activities in forensic science, criminal justice, and intelligence; accounting and finance career exploration; learning about careers working for the Pirates, Penguins, Steelers, Riverhounds and more; workshops, interactive activities, and mentorship sessions in entrepreneurship; sports broadcasting; choreography creation, movement studies, educational explorations in dance, and studio lab time; human-centered design and engineering; problem-solving using cutting-edge technology; 2D and 3D animation using industry-standard software and facilities; cinema and single-camera production; producing, directing, editing and cinematography fundamentals; screenwriting and multi-platform storytelling; and sound, audio recording and sound design for film using tools such as Avid Pro Tools, with work in acoustics, microphone skills, multi-track recording, and sound design for film and video. Students in the 412 Impact program participate in volunteer projects on- and off-campus and develop ideas to help the community.

Registrations for Summer 2026 programs are open, and the Office of Pre-College Programs offers these as innovative programming for youth and high school students across areas including Arts & Sciences, Business, Communication, Dance, Education, Film & Animation, Service Learning and Theatre. International Summer Dance welcomes talented dancers from across the country and around the globe, specializes in ballet, jazz and modern, and the Summer Dance Workshop is a dance intensive that focuses on building a student's technique, etiquette, and choreography comprehension. The 2D Animation and 3D Animation programs culminate in a screening of final projects for family and friends. Point Park University notes that it offers over 70 majors, over 20 master’s and doctoral degrees, and over 40 online degrees, and that it is Pittsburgh's only Downtown university.
Students in the 412 Impact program partner with nonprofit organizations and participate in volunteer projects both on- and off-campus, supported by Point Park University's Center for Civic and Community Engagement (CCE), which serves as a hub for collaboration and social innovation between the campus and the community. Point Park lists leadership contacts including Scott Swain, VP of athletics, and Lou Corsaro as a media contact. The university notes that it has earned full NCAA Division II membership, and that Film Production graduate Ailene Roberts, who was awarded a Golden Reel Award by the Motion Picture Sound Editors, has credits including “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” and “Venom: Let There Be Carnage.”
Past participants and students describe their experiences in these programs. A 2024 Creative Writing Camp participant, Declan Jolin, said, “I learned a lot about writing in general – how to be creative when doing it, how to just let loose and let your mind go wild, really just how to get better at it.” Rienna Kohen from the 2024 Accelerated Career Awareness Program said, “I enjoyed meeting people, visiting the accounting firms to experience a day in the life of an accountant and getting a first-hand look at the field to see if it's the right fit for me.” Kyla Pothier ’29 said, “My favorite part of the workshop was being able to experience several parts of what I am going to major in at Point Park.” Dance alumna Kimie Parker ’19 said of International Summer Dance, “It was six weeks of the most challenging and rigorous dance training I had ever received. I grew exponentially as a dancer during that small period of time and knew I had to continue that progress by auditioning for Point Park.” Education student Elizabeth Schrim ’24 said, “I have enjoyed learning all the different ways maker space education can be included in learning, not just in science or art. It can also be used in math, social studies and English.” 3D Animation Intensive participant Keegan Lasswell said, “It was awesome getting to use industry-standard software. Professor Morrison gave us the freedom to create and answered our questions. This camp definitely prepared me for what I want to do in the future.”
