Genesius Theatre Summer Theatre Classes

Genesius Theatre Summer Theatre Classes offers summer theatre classes in a performance venue that specializes in musical theatre with professional live orchestras. The theatre uses state of the art lighting and modern effects in an up-close atmosphere, and the space doubles as a learning center offering these summer theatre classes annually. The program encourages and features kids live performance and teen live performance as part of its focus on musical theatre, drama, and children’s theatre in a unique and intimate setting.

Founded in 1971 by Jane Simmon Miller, Genesius Theatre moved to its current physical site in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1974. The mission of Genesius Theatre is to provide outstanding diverse theater opportunities to the community, educate young people and adults in all aspects of the craft of theater, and produce the highest quality entertainment experience for guests. Genesius Theatre is a 501C3 non-profit organization that performs 10 productions annually, 3 of which feature kids and teens exclusively, with each production intricately created from finely-stitched costumes to the design, build, and staging of sets by dedicated volunteers and community participants. Genesius Corporation received funding from Pennsylvania Creative Industries, powered by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, and the theatre continues to serve as a training ground for alumni who have had career success on Broadway, regional theatre, and other entertainment fields. The theatre provides an artistic outlet for members of the community to express themselves on-stage and off, and the Genesius family includes a cross-section of the community who enrich the region with their dedication to nurturing the arts and involving youth.
