Olivet Boys & Girls Club Youth Programs and Summer Camp includes Summer Camp, a Summer Theatre Camp, sunny days by the pool, hikes in the great outdoors, singing and dancing, museum visits filled with art and history, and trips to the ballpark. The program follows the national initiatives of Boys & Girls Clubs of America for young people between the ages of six and eighteen and focuses on Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character & Citizenship. Programs and services are available during non-school hours and during the summer at free or greatly reduced costs, and Olivet’s services target underserved youth from diverse communities within the City of Reading.

Olivet Boys & Girls Club was one of the original 50 organizations that joined with similar youth groups across the country to form what became Boys & Girls Clubs of America. For most of its history, it operated two units in two neighborhoods, Clinton Street and Mulberry Street, and during the 1990s it expanded into several new areas of the city. Olivet currently operates seven satellite locations across Reading and serves over 3,000 youth annually. The organization’s mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need it most, to reach their full potential as healthy, productive, caring, responsible citizens.
The leadership team includes Rick Perez, CEO; Nicholas Philippides, COO; Jordan Rodriguez, Director of Programming; and Ashley Rank, Blue Mountain Camp Summer Director, along with site leaders such as Baba Waples, Clinton Site Director; Ramses Sanchez, Pendora Site Director; Christian Singleton, Oakbrook Site Director; and Brianna Williams, Center for the Arts Site Coordinator. Board leadership includes P. Sue Perrotty, Board Chair; Angel Helm, Vice-Chair & Secretary; and several committee chairs and board members overseeing governance, development and marketing, finance, human resources, marketing, and program and administration.
Olivet Boys & Girls Club was awarded $499,984 to launch the EMPOWER Resilience Initiative, and a $1 million federal grant with local support will restore shuttered Mulberry and Walnut Street facilities. Community involvement includes a partnership with Habitat for Humanity to break ground on a Buttonwood Street home, recognition among four student organizations in Berks County receiving Pennsylvania grants, and a visit from Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan to the Mulberry Street Club as renovations begin.
A testimonial from Mr. Baba, Site Coordinator at Clinton Street, describes his experience growing up as a “Club Kid” at 677 Clinton Street, including memories of an X-Men arcade game, dancing in the gym, playing tag at the Clinton Street Dance Party on Friday nights, and spending summers at the pool as one of the youngest members allowed in the deep end. He states that his experiences as a Club Kid guide him in his current role and that his goal as a Site Coordinator is to create a safe, fun, and welcoming environment where parents feel confident and at peace knowing their child is at Clinton Street Olivet, and to be a positive role model while building a strong, collaborative team that shares a love for the community.
