About

Austin Tennis Academy offers world-class tennis training combined with on-campus private school education through ATA College Prep. Daily activities include on-court training, strength and conditioning, tennis-specific speed and agility training, mobility and corrective exercise, injury prevention and recovery, and functional movement training.

Austin Tennis Academy is led by Coach Jack Newman, who is referred to as CEO in an article byline and as Coach Newman in descriptive text. The program’s mission is to help junior tennis student-athletes reach in their personal life, valuing excellence in results and excellence in character equally, and stating pride in producing “citizens of significance.” Austin Tennis Academy has been holding its Shootout event for nearly a quarter of a century. The academy includes a fully accredited private school, ATA College Prep, and has received the 2024 USTA Outstanding Facilities Award.

Austin Tennis Academy emphasizes developing what Coach Newman calls “citizens of significance, not just accomplishment,” with a stated focus on character, integrity, and giving back. When ATA was founded, Coach Newman pledged to raise $1 million for A Glimmer of Hope, and through efforts of players, parents, and coaches, the ATA community has helped fund water wells, schools, and medical facilities in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, with members of the community traveling there to help open these projects firsthand; ATA has raised more than $650,000 toward this $1 million commitment. Austin Tennis Academy also gives back through the Shootout, its annual fundraising event supporting AASF, a charity that supports deserving student-athletes pursuing a disciplined lifestyle, and this event has raised more than $2.2 million that have been awarded in scholarships to junior players who have a philanthropic spirit and commit themselves to giving back and making a positive impact in the world.

Testimonials from ATA College Prep alumni describe their experiences balancing academics and high-level tennis and refer to the school’s emphasis on character, leadership, academic excellence, resilience, commitment, and a close-knit community, with named alumni including Nico Jamison (Cleveland State University), Josh Hagar (Notre Dame University), and Kenna Erickson (LSU University).
