Activities at Camp at The Cibolo are tied to topics such as water conservation, land stewardship, care for wildlife, sustainability, planting, and celebration of harvest, along with special events and exhibits, sustainable living education programs, and community gardens.
• Schedule: Ongoing programs and events include a weekly Farmers Market at Herff Farm on Saturdays from 9:00am–1:00pm year-round, Wednesday Walks with Noah from 2:30pm–3:00pm, Homeschool at The Cibolo from 10:00am–11:30am, Family Night Hike from 6:00pm–7:30pm, and Second Saturday Volunteering from 9:00am–12:00pm.
For more than 35 years, the Cibolo Center for Conservation has carried out its mission to promote the conservation of nature through education, stewardship, and community connections. In 1988, Carolyn Chipman Evans, her husband Brent Evans, and a group of friends envisioned this organization as a way to connect their community with nature. The organization now operates two campuses that together encompass over 160 acres and protect the Cibolo Creek watershed, which contributes over a million gallons per day to the Trinity and Edwards Aquifers, and it is described as a model of conservation education and a thriving model for conservation, land stewardship, and outdoor learning. The Cibolo Center for Conservation is supported by community members and serves more than 70,000 children, adults, and families per year through its programs and initiatives, including the Cibolo Conservation Corridor Initiative and Resilient Boerne.
Herff Farm, one of the campuses where Camp at The Cibolo activities take place, is a gathering place that offers public events, community gardens, a weekly Farmers Market, hiking opportunities, and space for special events and exhibits, nature trails, and sustainable living education programs, and it is home to the Nest Nature School. The Cibolo Nature Center campus offers miles of trails through five distinct ecosystems and maintains visitor center hours Monday–Friday from 9:00am–4:30pm, with trail hours from 8:00am to dusk seven days per week. Testimonials from visitors describe time at the Cibolo as “a wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature with the grandchildren,” “beautiful walks along Cibolo Creek,” and “such a peaceful spot” where families have been coming for years.
