About
KidStrong is a kids training program that includes obstacle courses, tug of war, tire flips, puzzles, games, mental challenges, science-based fitness games, and warm-ups. Classes are structured and not free-play like a playdate, and are reserved for KidStrong members only. Some centers also offer KidStrong camps and KidStrong Camp, and some centers run KidStrong Academy.
• Ages: 1–11 years old
• Schedule: Membership includes one 45-minute class per week, with weekly 45-minute classes
KidStrong was founded in 2015. The program uses science-based programming with a curriculum that focuses on three pillars: Character, Physical, and Cognitive, and follows a Whole Child Philosophy with three pillars: Strong Character, Strong Body, and Strong Mind. Classes are 45-minute, age-appropriate sessions that are described as developmentally appropriate, fun, and challenging.
Each class includes several blocks: a Foundations block that combines warm-ups with skill development, a Milestone block to stimulate brain function and enhance cognitive development, a Move & Learn block that blends physical activity with cognitive or character development, a Performance block that focuses on skill mastery through repeated training and testing, and a Competition block that uses games. Classes end with an award ceremony. The program includes a focus on progression where kids can rank up, unlock new responsibilities, and celebrate progress.
KidStrong is a parent-focused program, and parents join class on the floor with kids under 4 years old. Classes begin with a social greeting that includes handshakes, eye contact, and saying their name, and kids use the KidStrong affirmation: “I am strong, I am brave, I can do this!” KidStrong does not provide medical services, does not accept insurance, and states that it cannot guarantee that a child will learn how to fly.
Coaches are highly-trained, certified, and professional, and programming is designed by child development experts. KidStrong is guided by a group of experts, child development scientists, and coaches. The leadership and expert team includes Matt Sharp (Founder), Megin Sharp (Founder), Morgan Johnson (Sr. Manager, Training & Certification), Ramon Williams (Senior Programming Specialist), Randy Nguyen (Programming Specialist), Patti Eubanks (Preschool & Kindergarten Director), Patrick Ford (Doctor of Physical Therapy), and Dr. Julie Foucher (MD, Family Physician, 4x CrossFit Games Competitor). Megin and Matt partnered with Lincoln Brown to turn the idea into a scalable business. KidStrong has more than 160 locations serving more than 65,000 kids per week, and it celebrated its 100th center opening with franchisee Barb Volk in Plantation, Florida, which demonstrates a proven business model that has generated success for franchisees in markets across the US and Canada.
According to the mission statement, KidStrong is a kids training program that builds strong, confident, and high-character kids and helps kids win at life by developing a strong body, mind, and character through weekly 45-minute classes led by expert coaches, and everything is based on the Whole Child Philosophy. The mission statement also says that when the focus is on the whole child, kids get the foundation they need to become well-rounded, confident kids.
Parent testimonials describe individual experiences with KidStrong. One parent reports that KidStrong has been “life changing” for their son Gus and says the program has taught him how to participate, listen, be a good teammate, and practice patience. Another parent says their daughter has been part of KidStrong since July 2022, has “loved it,” and is more brave doing things that others her age might be scared to do. A parent of a child who started at 16 months says the coaches are well trained and highly skilled, and that after about four months their child went from being “super shy and reserved” to having “a ton of fun and going 100% in the activities,” and that KidStrong is their family’s favorite part of each week. Other parents say their kids have begun to come out of their shells, that KidStrong has helped a “Covid-baby” who was very shy, and that their daughter’s confidence has “skyrocketed.” One parent with a child who has a speech delay says that after joining KidStrong, the environment motivated their child and that the child is now putting effort into learning not just words but also activities like cooking and cleaning.
