About

Boys & Girls Club of Lufkin offers youth development programs that support a commitment to learning, positive values, healthy habits, and high expectations for success as an adult. The program reinforces a sense of belonging, personal accountability, civility, and civic responsibility, and is based on the belief that children are the very essence of the future. It follows the SHINE Values of Safety & Well-Being, Honor & Accountability, Individuality & Belonging, New Opportunities & Empowerment, and Engagement & Impacting Communities, and encourages every young person to “Be Bold. Be You. SHINE!”

• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Price: Membership fees are kept affordable for every family

The mission of Boys & Girls Club of Lufkin is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need the program most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. Professionally trained staff provide ongoing, caring relationships and connections to new friends. The program’s goals include teaching the fundamentals of social responsibility, healthy living, and cultural acceptance, and it is committed to keeping membership fees affordable for every family, based on the belief that a child’s zip code should not determine their chances for success.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Deep East Texas, which includes the Lufkin club, serves over 5,000 children a year and operates six clubs in Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Diboll, San Augustine, Hardin County, and Polk County. The organization has been involved with the growing community for many years, making a difference in the lives of youth in Lufkin and serving families in neighborhoods that need the program the most. The Club House Director for the Lufkin clubhouse is Jason Benjamin. The broader organization’s history traces back to 1988, when Dr. Jim DiNucci recognized the need for a Boys and Girls Club in Nacogdoches, and by 1990 the first summer of operation there served 30 members; today the Nacogdoches Club serves over one thousand members, has an average daily attendance of over 200, and is housed in a 4.1 million dollar, wholly owned clubhouse.
