About
Camp UREC is a weekly children's day camp where campers spend full days playing in the recreation center, around campus, and in the community. Daily activities include time in the pool, community activities, and a local field trip on Fridays. Campers follow a structured day that includes informal play time in the gym, multiple activity blocks, lunch, quiet time, and afternoon community activity or pool sessions.

By registering a child, parents give permission for the child to visit locations on and off campus in Harrisonburg with Camp UREC, and any child arriving after the bus leaves on Friday must be dropped off at the field trip location site.
Camp UREC aligns its programs and activities with components of the JMU Well-Being Model to match the departmental mission to promote and advance healthy lifestyles. Camp Counselors are trained, background-checked JMU student employees. UREC follows the American Camp Association’s recommendations for ratios of adults to participants, with one staff member for every 5 campers ages 4 and 5, one for every 6 campers ages 6 to 8, one for every 10 campers ages 9 to 11, and one for every 15 campers ages 12 to 17.
