Northern Virginia Sailing School offers a range of on-the-water sailing activities, including a Try Sail class, cruises, and the American Sailing 101 Basic Keel Boat course. The program also offers American Sailing classes such as ASA 102: Keelboat Sailing 2, ASA 103: Basic Coastal Cruising, and ASA 104: Bareboat Cruising, along with specialized classes for all levels of sailing expertise and classes for new sailboat owners on their own vessels. Certified sailors can rent Catalina 22 sailboats, and captains are available to take out groups.

The school’s most popular sailboats for introductory lessons and rentals are Catalina 22s with outboard motors, fiberglass hulls, masthead sloop rigs with a main and headsail, and swing keels, along with other similar boats such as Hunter and San Juan brands. More advanced courses take place on a Hunter 31 equipped with full navigation equipment, an inboard diesel motor, and cruising gear for a live-aboard experience. All sails are scheduled by appointment using an online scheduler, American Sailing classes are held entirely on the water, and class sizes are limited. The program offers flexible timing with classes available throughout the week and weekend, sailboats available to rent for certified sailors, and a buy one get one Try Sail class free promotion running until December 25, 2025.
