The camp includes a Counselor-in-Training program for teens and a two-week Leadership Development Program that includes an offsite camping trip.
ADA Camp Needlepoint & Daypoint states that ADA Camp is a lifeline for children living with diabetes to develop skills related to social connections, self-respect, independence, self-confidence, and awareness of a healthy lifestyle through education, nutrition, exercise, blood glucose (blood sugar) management, and emotional wellbeing. Camp staff are led by staff trained in the American Diabetes Association’s Standards of Care in Diabetes, and licensed medical professionals and students may work or volunteer at camp. All volunteers, staff, and medical personnel must complete an application, interview, and background check.
The American Diabetes Association offers financial assistance so no child will ever be turned away from camp due to cost. The program lists flexible pricing options including Full Price, ADA Sponsored Price, and Financial Assistance, and notes that nearly half of families receive financial assistance to cover part or the full cost of camp. Optional transportation is provided for day camp only, and families can sign up for transportation at the time of registration. The Camp Director is Becky Barnett.
