About
Walnut Country Preschool offers a child-centered, play-based curriculum that uses lesson plans with space for open-ended exploration to suit each child's individual learning style. The program includes time in an art room and outdoor play in areas that include a playhouse.
• Schedule: Mon - Fri 8:00 am – 1:00 pm (Summer months and holidays may impact this schedule.)
Walnut Country Preschool has been serving families in the Concord, Clayton, and Walnut Creek area for 50 years, and for more than 50 years it has been a place for children to learn, play, and grow. The preschool operates on a nondiscriminatory basis, providing equal treatment and access to services without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, or ancestry. Its stated goal is to prepare children for the next stage of their lives through the development of motor abilities, thinking skills, and healthy interactions with their peers, and to promote social, emotional, sensory, cognitive, and physical development for each child on their individual learning journey. By supporting children's natural curiosity, the program’s goal is to develop confidence and positive self-esteem, which it states encourages creative problem solving and critical thinking skills.
The leadership team includes Mrs. Kelly as Director, Mrs. Erika as Head Teacher, and Mrs. Jessica and Mrs. Alyce as Teachers. Mrs. Kelly holds a B.A. in Liberal Studies from San Diego State University, with additional studies in Early Childhood Education from Diablo Valley College. Mrs. Erika holds a B.A. in Liberal Studies from Cal State East Bay, with additional studies in Early Childhood Education from Diablo Valley College. Mrs. Jessica earned her B.A. in Liberal Studies from San Francisco State University and studied Early Childhood Education at Diablo Valley College. Walnut Country Preschool describes itself as a close-knit community of teachers, families, and friends. Families can assist in the classroom, help with projects, and volunteer in roles such as Fundraising Lead, Room Parent, or event volunteer. The Board of Directors is made up of parents of currently enrolled children who help guide and support the preschool throughout the year, and the preschool states that it shares in the success of the greater community. Enrollment is first come, first serve, and already enrolled families have access to a private parent portal.
