About
Walnut Country Preschool is a play-based preschool that uses a child-centered, play-based curriculum. The program develops lesson plans that leave space for open-ended exploration to suit each child's individual learning style. It provides an enriching, supportive, and secure learning environment where children are exposed to a variety of stimulating experiences.

• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–1:00 pm (summer months and holidays may impact this schedule)
Walnut Country Preschool has been serving families in the Concord, Clayton, and Walnut Creek area for 50 years, and for more than 50 years the school has been a place for children to learn, play, and grow. The stated goal of the program is to prepare children for the next stage of their lives through the development of motor abilities, thinking skills, and healthy interactions with their peers. The learning environment is intended to promote social, emotional, sensory, cognitive, and physical development for each child on their individual learning journey. By supporting children's natural curiosity, the program’s stated goal is to develop confidence and positive self-esteem, which encourages creative problem solving and critical thinking skills. Walnut Country Preschool operates on a nondiscriminatory basis, providing equal treatment and access to services without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, or ancestry.
The leadership team includes Mrs. Kelly as Director, Mrs. Erika as Head Teacher, and Mrs. Jessica and Mrs. Alyce as Teachers. Mrs. Kelly holds a B.A. in Liberal Studies from San Diego State University, with additional studies in Early Childhood Education from Diablo Valley College. Mrs. Erika holds a B.A. in Liberal Studies from Cal State East Bay, with additional studies in Early Childhood Education from Diablo Valley College. Mrs. Jessica earned her B.A. in Liberal Studies from San Francisco State University and studied Early Childhood Education at Diablo Valley College. Mrs. Alyce earned her B.A. in Sociology from San Diego State University and studied Early Childhood Education at Diablo Valley College.
Walnut Country Preschool describes itself as a close-knit community of teachers, families, and friends. Families have the opportunity to assist in the classroom, help with projects, and take on roles such as Fundraising Lead, Room Parent, or event volunteer. The Board of Directors is made up of parents of currently enrolled children who help guide and support the preschool throughout the year. The program also offers a private parent portal for already enrolled families.
