About
Kaiju BJJ Kids & Teens Programs and Summer Camp offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training that includes Gi BJJ, No-Gi BJJ, submission grappling, wrestling, and self-defense. The program also includes a Kids Summer Camp and is connected to a Women’s Only Defense program. Classes take place on dedicated mat space at Kaiju BJJ Academy and run multiple sessions 7 days a week.
• Ages: 4–17 years old
• Schedule: Club practices on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with academy hours Monday–Friday 9am–8pm and Saturday 10am–12pm
The program is led by Prof Kaiju (‘lil Aaron), head instructor and co-owner of Kaiju Bros Jiu-Jitsu; Coach Alex, kids' program head instructor and co-owner; and Coach Aaron, who handles behind-the-scenes aspects of the academy and leads some classes. Prof Kaiju is a highly decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under Master Ralph Gracie, a multi-time World Champion in multiple BJJ promotions, a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Hawaiian Kenpo, a decorated collegiate wrestler, and 2-0 in MMA and kickboxing. Coach Alex is a Brown Belt in BJJ, holds a Black Belt in Hawaiian Kenpo, has wrestled throughout junior high and high school, and has been training BJJ since 2011 while pursuing a degree in Sociology with a Minor in Environmental Policy/Marine Biology at UCSC. Coach Aaron has been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu off and on for over 10 years.
Kaiju BJJ states a one team philosophy where everyone is welcome regardless of affiliation, fitness, or skill level, and describes its environment as safe, clean, welcoming, supportive, and inclusive, with respect, diversity, and camaraderie at the heart of the community. Kaiju BJJ is a proud member of the Caio Terra Association (CTA), a network of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools that follow the standards of 12-time World Champion Caio Terra, which includes access to a worldwide BJJ community, exclusive seminars, advanced training methods, and competitive opportunities. The academy is also proud to coach the UC Davis Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Club and host the UC Davis Judo Club’s weekly practices.
Class sizes are intentionally limited to allow for personalized attention and guidance from experienced instructors, and self-defense programs are tailored to each individual. Programs for children ages 5–12 are described as laying the foundation for a lifetime of health and fitness, and programs for teens ages 13–17 emphasize focus, discipline, and respect. Kaiju BJJ Kids Summer Camp combines summer fun with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu’s benefits, and the Women’s Only Defense program blends fitness training and self-defense techniques in an all-female environment.
Students are advised to bring a gi for BJJ classes, comfortable athletic clothing for no-gi classes, a water bottle, and a towel. Personal hygiene items such as a change of clothes and shower essentials are recommended, and personal protective gear such as mouthguards or knee pads is advised.
