About
Center Stage Productions offers musical theatre, classes, and production opportunities for young performers. The program takes place within a non-profit youth theatre company that focuses on musical theatre productions and related classes.
• Ages: 8–18 years old
Center Stage Productions was started in 2004 and is celebrating 21 years. The mission of the program is: “To engage young people in musical theatre created in a safe and inclusive environment.” The board of directors and staff are committed to fairness and equal opportunity for all performers, including every gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, religion, race, and ethnicity, and they use an ethical and impartial casting process that gives equal opportunity to every performer. Anyone who wants to perform can, as the program does not make cuts, and every request for tuition aid is granted. The organization has a long history of non-traditional casting, is committed to making programming more accessible financially, to providing EDI and other educational training to leaders in the Center Stage Productions community, to offering more diverse programming and educational opportunities, and to actively seeking feedback from its community.
Center Stage Productions is part of the North County San Diego Youth Theatre. The leadership team includes Delnora, Gia, Coni, Tiffini, Mandy, and Lisa. The program states that its community includes both the theater community and its neighborhood.
Parents and performers have shared testimonials about their experiences with Center Stage Productions. One parent, MJ, said, “I feel very lucky to have found an arts community in Escondido that is a safe place for kids to truly express themselves.” Performer NB said, “Thank you for creating an amazing environment! I’ve never felt more a part of something than I do with CSP. I feel like I have a second family, and I’ve made really amazing friends. Doing the shows has boosted my confidence a lot.” Parent LW said, “I had a great time volunteering. All the performers and other parents make it a very open, inclusive experience.” Performer KM said, “It felt like home right away, and I wish I had found this theater earlier.” Another performer said, “Simply just Thank you to CSP for such an amazing experience and opportunity.” Parent VS said, “My favorite part was seeing my daughter on stage and given a chance at a lead regardless of her ethnicity or impairments.” Performer KC said, “It was an absolutely amazing experience and a wonderful warmth was literally surrounding the whole cast, crew, artistic team, and the production itself!!”
