Saul and Victoria Mendoza founded San Diego Fencing Center in 2005, and this is the 4th year they have run these summer camps. Saul Mendoza is an Olympic fencer who represented Bolivia in the 1984 Summer Games, and in 2016 Juan Ignacio Calderón joined the team as co-owner and Head Coach. The center’s stated goal is to promote the Olympic sport of fencing by offering affordable programs open to everyone, from youth to veterans, for both competitive and recreational fencers. In 2016, they created the Global Fencing Network, which includes more than 200 fencing clubs in over 40 countries. Participants are asked to wear athletic shoes, sports shorts, and a T-shirt, and to bring a water bottle.
