STAR Repertory Theatre was formed in 2011 by Scott, Meredith, and Megan Kolod. Each show’s production staff is described as extremely experienced and knowledgeable working professionals in the theatre world. STAR Rep does not cut anyone from its shows and often double, triple, or occasionally quadruple casts to create an appropriate number of lead roles for the size of the cast, and the production staff works to find ways to feature everyone in the show. STAR Rep is gender and race blind in casting and states that it gives no preferential treatment to anyone who auditions, whether they are new to STAR Rep or have done multiple previous shows. STAR Rep welcomes families to participate together on stage, including parents, siblings, grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles. The organization states that it has the lowest cost on tuition and tickets for the types of shows it performs, and scholarships can be obtained when necessary.
STAR Repertory Theatre’s mission is to teach, develop, create, promote, and present works that bridge communities through entertaining artistry. Its specific goal is for child actors to have fun while learning and performing, while adult actors aim to achieve the height of excellence. STAR Rep’s mission also includes providing a safe haven that empowers performers and families to grow their confidence, promote creativity, and build self-esteem through musical theatre regardless of gender, ability, religion, economic status, ethnicity, race, political affiliation, sexual or gender orientation, and it states that STAR Rep is a safe place for everyone. STAR Repertory Theatre is organized exclusively for educational, literary, and presentational purposes of fostering greater awareness and understanding of performance theatre through educational programs and onstage theatrical performances. The youth theatre division is dedicated to making rehearsals and performances fun, educational, and rewarding, and the adult theatre division is dedicated to providing top quality professional performances.
STAR Repertory Theatre has been recognized as North County San Diego’s Favorite Non-Profit Youth, Family, and Adult Community Musical Theatre Company, with GOLD WINNER and SILVER WINNER honors. The venue includes a home theatre permitted for 175 seats in a 6,000 square foot space with multiple large rehearsal rooms used for teaching, along with a 1,200 square foot set storage warehouse.
