Pinewood’s history is rooted in the 1950s, when Gwen Riches began an after-school program in her home focusing on the performing arts. The school states that its mission is to create a community where students seek knowledge, demonstrate character, build confidence, and experience joy in an uplifting environment. The program information notes that Pinewood’s one-week summer camps are designed to offer a dynamic mix of fun, learning, and new experiences, and that online registration requires a separate form per camper per camp week, with registration considered complete only after form submission and payment receipt and a waitlist system used when camps reach capacity. Payment notes for electronic payments such as Zelle and Venmo must include the camper’s first name, last name, and grade.

Additional school-wide facts connected to Pinewood include that all K–7 students participate in an annual performing arts production, well over half of the student body plays on a Pinewood sports team, athletes can represent Pinewood from 4th through 12th grade, and all K–6 students have PE every day for 166 days of movement and play. Each subject is taught by a specialized teacher from K–12, Pinewood students partnered with more than 300 local community service organizations last year, Happiness Week is devoted to joy and is celebrated by all Pinewood students and staff, and the Pinewood Scholars Program for juniors and seniors focuses on social entrepreneurship.

Testimonials from Pinewood students include Arjun ’25, who says, “I was once the student who was scared to be part of a community. Now with more passion and experience, I’m the student trying to bring people into it.” Christina ’25 says, “Pinewood encourages curiosity, and I’m always learning new things about myself and others.” Joey ’24 says, “I’m a maker, a musician, and a science nerd. This year, I’m trying choir and the school play for the first time. There is so much I want to squeeze in before I graduate. Through new experiences, I am becoming more sure of myself.” Riya ’26 says, “If you want to grow, this is the place to do it. Pinewood will help you expand on your interests no matter what they entail and will make sure you are growing into the best version of yourself.”
