Oakland Ballet School offers classical ballet training that includes Young Dancer Camps, Youth Summer Intensives, an Open Level Program for Adults & Teens, Pilates for Ballet Dancers, and Beginning Contemporary classes. The Ballet School, formerly the Oakland Ballet Academy, was founded in 1968 as the official school of the Oakland Ballet Company under the direction of Ronn Guidi. The Academy moved to a location on MacArthur in 1973. The leadership team includes founding director Ronn Guidi of the official school of the Oakland Ballet Company and directors Joral and Denise Schmalle. Dance luminaries came to the school to set ballet masterpieces such as Billy the Kid, Les Biches, Les Noces, Afternoon of a Faun, Scheherezade, and The Green Table.
