Summer at LACM

Summer at LACM includes master classes, private lessons, recitals, large ensembles, A&R workshops, industry panels, live performance, and recording sessions. Participants take part in activities such as working in bands, technique workshops, drum production, vocal production, mixing, beat-making, artist development, lyrics writing, sampling, MIDI production, and composing for film, TV, and video games. Some students record one to two original songs in a recording studio, record a performance style music video, and create a logo or branding package, and some receive private half-hour lessons.

Programs are led and taught by LACM faculty, top music industry members, and award-winning faculty members. Summer at LACM is offered to all skill levels, and participants can choose emphases in bass, guitar, drum, piano, vocal or jazz performance, rap and hip-hop, songwriting, music production, composing for visual media, or music entrepreneurship. Independent Artist Study students can create a hybrid schedule of classes and sessions and receive a total of four half-hour private lessons aimed at achieving professional and personal goals as an artist. Pro Artist Study participants can record one to two original songs and a performance style music video and leave with a logo or branding package. There is a grant available for accepted students in financial need, and full scholarships are offered to applicants with financial need for the Rap & Hip-Hop: Change the World program, where all tracks must contain lyrics with a positive message. The Rap & Hip-Hop: Change the World program partners with the Subversive Foundation. Los Angeles College of Music is described as having award-winning faculty and is referred to as a Billboard Top School for Music Business.
