• Schedule: Five weeks of intensive academic enrichment each summer
• Price: Fully funded summer enrichment experience; fully funded summer academic enrichment program
Founded in 1990, Partnership for Success is a community-based program supporting the growth and success of students in Pasadena. It is a collaborative effort between the Pasadena Unified School District and four Pasadena independent schools—Chandler, Mayfield Junior, Polytechnic, and Westridge—and includes partnerships with local organizations, cultural institutions, and community leaders. Principals from Pasadena’s public elementary schools identify 4th grade students for program selection, and students officially join Partnership for Success the summer before 5th grade and participate for nine consecutive summers, culminating with a transition to college after high school graduation. The program serves more than 400 students in over 40 courses, with small class sizes typically limited to 15–16 learners at some sites, and college-age interns—many of whom are program alumni—support instruction. Its mission states that Partnership for Success empowers Pasadena Unified School District students to realize their full academic and personal potential through a transformative, fully funded summer enrichment experience, fostering confidence, creativity, leadership, and college and career readiness by connecting students with dynamic teaching, hands-on learning, and a supportive, inclusive community. The program includes a comprehensive college counseling program that begins in 9th grade and continues through high school graduation, and nearly 80% of Scholars are the first in their families to attend college, with 100% of graduates accepted to college. Community involvement includes partnerships among teachers, students, families, alumni, and community organizations.
One testimonial from a student in the PFS Class of 2024 describes nine summers in the program that included academic and personal progress and guidance on college applications, resumes, and financial aid. Another student from the PFS Class of 2024 notes feeling like a valued member of the community, meeting a best friend, and taking classes that were both captivating and practical, along with support as a first-generation college student. A third student from the PFS Class of 2024 credits tools, connections, resources, and one-on-one support during the essay and college application process for admission to Yale, and highlights friendships and community built through deep conversations and Friday BBQs.
