About

Savoir Faire Language Institute & Immersion Preschool offers a European-Style Immersion Preschool where children spend their time laughing, playing, drawing, and taking part in hands-on learning experiences. Through life instruction in classes, children learn to speak Spanish, French, or Mandarin in the same way they learned their first language, in an immersion approach in a relaxed atmosphere.

• Ages: 0–5 years old

The program offers French, Spanish, and Mandarin with a professional and multi-lingual team. Its curriculum is designed to enhance children’s interests in a happy and safe environment, with small classes that allow for lots of individual attention. Intercultural teaching styles merge to create a dynamic approach to instruction, with a focus on the development of emotional and social skills. Teachers are educated and trained in positive discipline techniques and use a developmentally appropriate approach.

The staff includes a fully credentialed teacher from Peru. The leadership team includes Zoila Villafuerte, who oversees the school’s operations and development and has been part of Savoir Faire since 1999, becoming a co-owner in 2018, and Grace Wang, who serves as the accountant.

The mission of Savoir Faire Language Institute is to teach students how to communicate with the language and the culture they learn, based on the belief that successful communication requires comprehension, speaking, and understanding the culture. The mission states that language is above all communication and that successful communication is not found only in textbooks, drills, and grammar exercises, but in activities where students can naturally communicate and laugh as they participate in activities that get them talking and learning.

One parent described Savoir Faire as an open and caring environment where kids learn language through a natural, organic process rather than rote exercise, with teachers who have been there for years and show warmth and affection, and noted hearing Mandarin, Spanish, French, and English and seeing kids of all backgrounds together. Another parent, Brenda, shared that her sons, ages 5 and 3.5, have attended for about a year, first at the Redondo Beach location and then at the Torrance site, and described the staff as caring, thoughtful, and dedicated educators, and the school as play-based while balancing structured learning through various play-based techniques.
