• Ages: 6–18 years old
Woodside Vaulters was founded in 1990 in the United States and has been operating as a California nonprofit corporation tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code since 2008. The program’s mission is to provide a safe environment where each vaulter has the best opportunity to reach his or her individual goals, for vaulting and for life. Woodside Vaulters is one of the largest and most successful vaulting clubs in the United States and has been inspiring equestrian vaulters since 1990, emphasizing horsemanship, safety, teamwork, communication skills, fitness, and the bond between vaulter and horse. The program currently includes introductory to advanced level vaulters preparing to compete in the spring and summer, and its vaulters come from all over the Bay Area.
The coaches are experienced in working with children and in coaching and competing at the highest levels. The longeurs are lifelong horse people with a depth of experience comparable to the coaches. The leadership team includes: Krista Mack (Head Horse Trainer, Lunger, High Performance Coach, Rider), Sarah Twohig (Barn Manager, Lunger, High Performance Coach, Rider), Caroline Morse (High Performance Coach, Lunger, Rider), Emma Milito (High Performance Coach, Lunger, Rider), Larry Markegard (Trot Lunger), Annika Malmstrom (Advanced/Development Trot Coach), Allie Jamei (Trot/Development Canter Coach), and Emi Yang (Trot/Development Canter Coach). In 2007 and 2014, Krista received the AVA Trainer of the Year award for her training of Woodside Vaulters’ horses, which have earned three AVA Horse of the Year awards and numerous USEF Vaulting Horse of the Year awards.
Woodside Vaulters describes its horses as gentle, strong, and well-trained, and states that they are central to the program. The club operates with a Board of five directors elected by the members, and it is described as a family organization where parent involvement in operations, facilities, and fundraising is essential. The organization is a 501(c) nonprofit. According to Equestrian Vaulting USA, “Vaulting is not only the safest of the equestrian sports, it is documented safer than riding bicycles, playing on playground equipment, and even playing soccer.”
