About

DMUSD Early Childhood Development Center offers developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor activities, daily small-group instruction, and small group lessons in phonological awareness, alphabet recognition, and mathematics. The program includes a rest period for children in the full day programs and states that all children in the preschool and prekindergarten classrooms must be confidently potty trained to attend. Staff support children in the areas of social-emotional development, language and literacy, mathematics and science, and physical development, and describe classrooms as inviting and comfortable spaces that are creative yet not over stimulating.

• Ages: 2–5 years old
• Schedule: Full-day option from 7:30am–4:30pm and half-day option from 8:00am–1:00pm

DMUSD Early Childhood Development Center has two center locations on school campuses, with Ashley Falls serving children from 2 to 5 years in age and Torrey Hills serving children 3 to 5 years in age. The program describes itself as offering a variety of exciting and engaging activities throughout the day, with developmentally appropriate hands-on experiences designed by teachers with close attention to children’s interests and specific modalities. Daily small-group instruction is described as providing multiple opportunities for children to be actively involved in learning with teacher modeling, guidance, immediate feedback, and support, with small group lessons focused on phonological awareness, alphabet recognition, and mathematics. The program states that it emphasizes intentional play-based opportunities where social-emotional and kindergarten readiness skills are embedded into play-based experiences and that it believes in utilizing the classroom environment as the third teacher. The program states that quality care and the safety of all children and staff are the utmost priority and that DMUSD recognizes all children grow and develop at their own pace.

The stated mission of DMUSD Early Childhood Development Center is “To ignite genius and empower students to advance the world!” The staff is described as very experienced and seeking to support children where they are while building the desire and confidence needed to explore and grow. The leadership team includes Ashley Falls Site Supervisor Tia Levandowski, Torrey Hills Site Supervisor Danica Whitlow, Accounting Specialist Emily Moustafa, Registrar Julie Woods, and Administrative Assistant Leslie Palac.
