Faith Formation of Children Preschool to Grade 5 includes a Sunday Preschool program with religious activities coordinated by catechists and weekly after-school Religious Education classes for grades 1–5. The program also offers Children’s Liturgy of the Word during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass from September through late May, where catechists guide children through the Word with various activities and end with the Creed and the Prayer of the Faithful. Sacramental classes provide a two-year preparation for Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, including an option for older children late in preparation to spend the first year in a regular class and the following year in the Sacramental Preparation class.

• Schedule: Sunday Preschool meets Sundays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.; Children’s Liturgy of the Word takes place during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass from September through late May; grades 1–5 Religious Education classes meet weekly after school with Monday and Thursday afternoon options
• Price: Sunday School registration fee: $150. Grades 1–5 Religious Education enrollment fee: $125 (now–September 22) or $140 (after September 22), plus an additional $50 per child for those in their 1st and 2nd year of Sacramental Preparation.
All new families must be registered in the parish before registering for Religious Education classes. Tuition assistance is available through scholarship application forms in the office, with a limited number of scholarships and an application deadline of September 8, 2025. Volunteers serve as catechists and classroom assistants, receive instruction from the Catechetical Program Coordinator, and catechist volunteers receive a 20% discount on their religious education fees. All Religious Education volunteers must complete background screening and Safe Environment Training, and Safe Environment Training and background screening are required for volunteers.
The program is coordinated by Quyen Skiano, Catechetical Program Coordinator. San Rafael Parish states that it exists to bring the Lord to all people in its area through proclamation of the Word and celebration of the Sacraments, with the Sacred Liturgy as its primary focus, and it describes each person as sharing in the Lord’s work of teaching and reaching out to those in need. San Rafael Parish also states that it endeavors to reach out to the poor and less fortunate both at home and in the missions.
Complaints about sexual abuse by clergy, parish, or Catholic school employees or volunteers can be made by phone, email, or via www.safeinourdiocese.org. The Independent Victim Compensation Program (ICP) assists victim-survivors who were abused as minors by priests of the Diocese of San Diego, is independent and not controlled by the Church, has no time limit on when the abuse may have taken place, considers all claims regardless of how long ago the abuse occurred, requires no attorney, has no fees, and does not require U.S. residency.
