• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Two three-week summer sessions from June 7–July 2 and July 7–30, with Clubhouses following the San Francisco Unified School District calendar for after-school programming on almost all school days and full-day programming on select school holidays, plus after-school, most school holiday, and all-day summer hours
Since 1891, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco has provided high-quality, community-based youth development services to youth in San Francisco and focuses on academic success, healthy lifestyles, good character and community engagement, and job readiness with earning potential. The organization runs targeted programs in four essential areas called the Formula for Impact: Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character and Community Engagement, and Job Readiness with earning potential, and all Clubhouses run programs that are fun and engaging while building skills and confidence for a successful future. As soon as youth members walk through the doors, they enter an environment of stability, consistency, and physical and emotional safety, and the Club is described as a place where every child belongs, where they are seen and valued, and where safety is the top priority.
Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco operates thirteen Clubhouses and School-Based Clubs and owns and operates Camp Mendocino, a 2,000-acre residential summer camp described as magical and providing an inspiring and fun outdoor experience for youth ages eight to 17. The organization is committed to the highest standards of safety and integrity, has zero tolerance for behavior that harms children, and stands firmly and unequivocally against hate in all its forms while rejecting any ideology that seeks to divide people or dehumanize them.
Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco was declared an essential business during the COVID-19 pandemic, altered operations to meet health requirements, kept doors open at most Clubhouses, developed virtual programs for youth six to 18, and pivoted to food distribution efforts serving over 4,100 meals per week at its high point. Starting August 17, the first day of distance learning for the new school year, BGCSF opened ten locations to allow young people, with a focus on the most vulnerable youth, to access the Clubs for support with online learning and services, and its Clubs are located in neighborhoods where the greatest need exists and where there are the fewest resources for youth.
The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring
