Marinwood Summer Camp

Marin Waldorf School, 755 Idylberry Rd, San Rafael, CA 94903

About

Vilda is back in Marinwood at the Marin Waldorf Campus! We look forward to practicing skills under the oak trees and exploring the creeks again.

We spend our mornings out on the landscape playing games, exploring waterways, and looking for animals. We come back to base camp for lunch and an afternoon of skills and badge earning.

In addition to our core curriculum of naturalist learning, this camp features the following awesome skills:

  • Carpentry: Kids learn safety and skillsets of basic woodworking as they make their own projects
  • Archery: We practice safety and technique with longbows and also play some fun games
  • Gardening: We get to water, plant, and harvest in the beautiful garden (please note gardening is not available in June)
  • Alternative nature-based crafts are also provided for kids who do not want to focus on carpentry or archery as much.

• Ages: 6.5–11 years old

• Location: Marin Waldorf School Campus, Marinwood, CA

• Schedule: Multiple weeklong sessions offered throughout the summer, 9am–3pm daily

• Price: Tuition Per Session Rate A: $834, Rate B: $710, Rate C: $603

Marinwood Summer Camp is part of Vilda, which is dedicated to facilitating meaningful connections with the natural world. Vilda started in Fairfax, California in 2008 and has been running programs since then, now serving over 1000 kids a year in Marin, Sonoma, and Tahoe. The organization is a 501c(3) non-profit and provides nature education, youth programs, homeschool programs, and summer camps in several Bay Area communities and in Tahoe and Truckee. The program is led by Vilda’s founder, Mia Andler, and uses a badge system for the attainment of skills badges.

One parent of a 7-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl describes the camp as a unique and positive nature experience of exploring and learning, speaking highly of the counselors. Another parent of two 7-year-old girls reports seeing changes in how their children notice nature, and a parent of a 9-year-old boy asserts that Vilda is their son’s favorite camp.

Vilda states that families in the Bay Area have differing abilities to pay and that it wants its programs to serve as many children as possible regardless of financial situation. Scholarships are available.
