Westside School of Ballet is Los Angeles’ oldest and most successful public ballet school and was founded in 1967. The school states that it is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence and the development of the student as an artist. Co-founders are Yvonne Mounsey and Rosemary Valaire, and the Artistic Director is Martine Harley. Westside School of Ballet offers training by teachers with broad experience performing with professional companies all over the world, and nearly all of the Artistic Staff are products of the school themselves, having served on the faculty for over 10, 20, and 30 years.

Westside Ballet of Santa Monica, the school’s non-profit performing division, has been a pre-professional training company in Southern California for over 50 years and has produced professional-caliber performances twice a year since 1973. Its full-length production of The Nutcracker with live orchestra is Los Angeles’ longest-running production and is celebrating its 48th anniversary, with productions presented at the Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center. All registered students are eligible for a performance opportunity in the Year End Demonstration for the entire school, from Pre-Primary (age 3) to Level 7. Westside Ballet of Santa Monica is a non-profit 501(c)3 and has been serving the Los Angeles ballet community for over 40 years.

Through Project RELEVÉ, Westside Ballet of Santa Monica supports professional performances, expands its scholarship program, and builds partnerships with numerous community organizations to advance the study and appreciation of ballet in Los Angeles.
