Santa Monica Music Camp

Santa Monica Music Camp offers a week-long music day camp where campers spend time playing music, attending a music theory class, and rehearsing in ensembles, chamber groups, and group song sessions. Daily activities include instrument-specific warm-up and technical method practices, performance-specific rehearsal, composition and theory skills in theory class, musical and social games, fun games that improve aural and rhythmic skills, outdoor play, movie time, and electives such as sports and arts/crafts when requested. Campers have 12 hours of weekly playing and practice time, and there is a showcase concert or small performance every Friday demonstrating what campers have learned.

• Schedule: Week-long sessions, Monday–Friday, generally 9am–3pm with optional early and after care; most camps run in weekly sessions with a small concert on Friday afternoon, including 2 weeks of Spring Music Camps and 10 weeks of Summer Music Camps
• Price: $400 per 5-day week-long session, $100 single-day rate; before/after care $10 per hour; rental guitars, violins, and violas $25 per week; early-bird, sibling, and multiple-week rebates available

Since 2001, Santa Monica Music Camp has offered a summer music day camp to children in West Los Angeles, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, Mar Vista, and Venice, presented by the Santa Monica Bay Music Foundation and coordinated by the faculty and staff of the Santa Monica Conservatory of Music. The program uses a sequential curriculum in which each additional week of participation moves students to the next musical level, and many campers achieve in one 10-week summer what would traditionally take 1–2 years in a once or twice-weekly school class. Camp counselors are professional, working musicians and music teachers with college degrees in music, years of experience, background checks, TB tests, and current CPR and First Aid certification. The Santa Monica Conservatory of Music provides fifes and keyboards during camp hours, and families can arrange rentals for guitars, violins, violas, and other instruments through the camp or recommended local music shops.
