North County Aikikai was established in 1991 as a traditional Aikido martial art dojo in North County San Diego. The ambience and training are described as deeply rooted in Japanese culture and etiquette. The youth program is part of a school dedicated to the art of Aikido as passed on by its founder, Morihei Ueshiba, and his direct disciple, T.K. Chiba Shihan, and the community of Aikido practitioners is committed to rigorous training and ongoing dialogue founded on mutual respect and commitment. The school states that it works to maintain a healthy, growing community which preserves the technical and ethical principles of O’Sensei while also ensuring the relevance of the art to future generations.

Coryl Crane Shihan is the founder and chief instructor of North County Aikikai and has studied under Chiba Shihan for more than 30 years. North County Aikikai is a member of Birankai North America, an association of Aikido dojos founded by T.K. Chiba Shihan, and through Birankai it is affiliated with the Aikikai Foundation in Tokyo, Japan. North County Aikikai is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

The program notes that through partner practice kids learn cooperation and respect for each other. It also states that, as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, it is committed to serving the wider community, and it invites families to join North County Aikikai and the Surfrider Foundation for a beach cleanup at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
