Education at Sagehen Creek Field Station includes K–12 field trips and outdoor classrooms, high school science and leadership programs, and public education programs and citizen science initiatives. The program also offers Adventure-Risk-Challenge (ARC), the Sagehen Outdoor Education Program (SOEP), Bio Boot Camp & Bio Boot Camp 2.0, and the River & Stream Restoration Course. Older students and adults participate in UC and CSU undergraduate field courses, graduate student workshops and thesis research, and specialized courses such as California Ecology & Conservation, the California Naturalist Program, and the Natural History Field Quarter (UCSC).

Education at Sagehen Creek Field Station operates as a living laboratory dedicated to advancing research, education, and stewardship in the Sierra Nevada. It is part of the UC Natural Reserve System and supports that system’s mission to provide university-level instruction at natural reserves throughout California. The program functions as a dynamic learning hub where education spans from early science exploration to advanced university research, with an emphasis on experiential, place-based learning. It provides access to a 9,000-acre experimental forest and supports a broad range of field-based learning experiences that foster ecological literacy, critical thinking, and a connection to the Sierra Nevada landscape. Sagehen has focused on excellence in research, education, and public service since 1951 and partners with schools, universities, and nonprofits to support educational efforts. A pack list is provided to guide what participants bring.
