About
Backalley Baseball offers summer baseball camps, private baseball lessons, and small-group training that include infield work, hitting work for ages 8–12, agility drills, throwing practice, alternative forms of conditioning, and games and scrimmages. The program uses technology and training methods that measure exit velocity, launch angle, and bat speed for hitters, as well as spinning rate, vertical movement, horizontal movement, and velocity for pitchers.
• Ages: 8–12 years old
• Schedule: Summer Baseball Camps Monday–Thursday, 9am–12pm
• Price: Summer Baseball Camps (M–Th 9am–12pm) $275; Private Lessons 1 hr $80; Infield work (60min) $40; Hitting Work (ages 8–12) $40
Backalley Baseball is led by former college players. The program’s mission statement says that mastering small skills is required to become a successful athlete and is based on three principles: coaches teach players the correct way to play the game, help each player develop the emotional maturity to manage the mental side of the game, and model integrity, honesty, and respect for their players.
The leadership includes Wilem, who was Head Coach for the West Coast Braves Organization 13u team from 2017–2019, resumed playing at Cal State LA, and earned a B.A./M.A. in Sociology. Wilem’s history includes developing a passion for coaching baseball in 2017 during rehab from Tommy John Surgery, coaching the West Coast Braves 13u team until 2019, and continuing coaching in 2022 by giving private lessons to local children. His credentials include all CCAA academic team (2019–2023), Dean's list (2018–2021), Male Athlete Academic Achievement Award (2022–2023), CSC Academic All-District (2023), CCAA Honorable Mention (2022), and serving as team captain (2022–2023).
