About

Drama Maniacs is a theatre program where kids take part in improv and theatre games and create kid-created productions. Participants WRITE, DIRECT, and STAR in their own shows, with everyone included in the entire show and no auditions. The program offers Drama Maniacs classes at schools and in the community, educational theatre during school hours, and Drama Maniacs day camps for a “CRAZY” summer, all in a relaxed, student-centered performance setting with no boring rehearsals.

• Schedule: Educational theatre during school hours; additional Drama Maniacs classes and day camps are offered

Drama Maniacs focuses on kid-created productions and a safe, positive learning environment where everyone is welcome no matter their abilities or level of experience, and each child is celebrated equally for their contribution and participation. Kids cast themselves by creating their own character, and the program includes tons of improv and theatre games with no stress and no auditions. The program is led by Director Kim Williams, who holds a California Teaching Credential (K-5 Multiple-Subject Credential with authorization to teach Theatre and Vocal Music), an MA in Education from Antioch University, Los Angeles, and a BFA in Music Theatre from the University of Windsor in Canada.

Parents describe that students are given creative ability to structure the play and create characters and plot, and they note that kids participate in putting the plays together and expressing themselves without judgment. Parents from multiple elementary schools report that their children were excited to participate and perform, stayed “in character,” and had a very positive and exciting experience that created strong memories. One parent and PTA President from Valley View Elementary states that the program has given her daughter a safe environment to be a “crazy kid” and try on new roles, and that her daughter shows bubbly excitement at the end of class.
