Explorer Camp Boulder is part of Avid4 Adventure’s one-week Explorer summer camps for 5 and 6 year olds entering Kindergarten or 1st Grade, with a camper to staff ratio of 5:1. Parents and campers meet staff at a consistent location daily, and Avid4 Adventure transports campers to recreation areas for the specific adventure sport and returns to the facility for afternoon pick up. For biking, campers are strongly encouraged to bring their own bike for biking day, with training wheels removed prior to camp, and Avid4 Adventure provides access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids.
Instructors are all 18 and older and are described as incredibly well-trained and professional staff, with serious safety and skills training, and Avid4 Adventure states that it does everything in its power to keep kids safe while teaching them to take calculated, well-communicated risks. Avid4 Adventure’s leadership includes Founder David Secunda, a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. The organization states that it recognizes Avid4 Adventure as a premium camp and is committed to paying educators a fair wage.
Avid4 Adventure’s mission is described as being born out of a desire to give kids a love of outdoor activity and to ensure the future caretaking of the planet. The summer camps are accredited by the American Camp Association, named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps, and Avid4 Adventure is a Certified B Corp. Avid4 Adventure operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service and is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
The program is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which promises an authentic outdoor adventure, incredibly well-trained and professional staff, increased confidence, and a customer experience that exceeds expectations, with a free next camp if these promises are not met. Programs with Avid4 Adventure evolve as campers grow, from age 3 through 17. Discounts include a Multi-Session/Sibling discount of $25 off per session after the first, a Referral Program where families can give friends $50 off their first camp and receive a $50 coupon for a future 2026 camp after a purchase, and a Service Discount of $65 off for qualifying professions.
Parent testimonials describe children learning new outdoor skills such as biking without training wheels and enjoying activities like stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, and biking, and refer to the staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with children. Testimonials also note that children were active every day and continued talking about camp weeks later.
