About

Explorer Camp Boulder introduces campers to a mix of outdoor and creative activities, including hiking, kayaking, canoeing, biking, yoga, art, and music. The program follows a sample weekly schedule where campers might kayak and do yoga on Monday, focus on art and on-site biking on Tuesday, bike and do yoga on Wednesday, enjoy music and canoeing on Thursday, and go hiking and do art on Friday. Parents and campers meet staff at the same location each day, and Avid4 Adventure transports campers to local recreation areas for the day’s adventure sport before returning to the facility for afternoon pick up.

Explorer Camp Boulder is part of Avid4 Adventure’s one-week Explorer summer camps for 5 and 6 year olds entering Kindergarten or 1st Grade, with a camper-to-staff ratio of 5:1. Avid4 Adventure encourages campers to bring their own bike for biking day with training wheels removed, and also provides access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids.

Avid4 Adventure states that its mission is to give kids a love of outdoor activity, to build confidence, to help them make new friends, and to support the future caretaking of the planet through activities such as paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking. The organization’s leadership includes founder David Secunda, a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. Avid4 Adventure is accredited by the American Camp Association, is a Certified B Corp, and has been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps. It operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service and is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

The program offers multi-session and sibling discounts of $25 off per session after the first, a referral program where families can give friends $50 off their first camp and receive a $50 coupon for a future 2026 camp, and a $65 service discount for qualifying professions. Avid4 Adventure notes that it hires committed, experienced instructors, uses professional-caliber equipment, and transports campers to authentic local recreation areas. The organization states that it teaches campers solid skills in adventure sports along with using sound judgment and problem-solving, and that it focuses on giving kids the knowledge and confidence to take calculated, well-communicated risks.

Parent testimonials describe children learning new outdoor skills such as biking without training wheels and continuing to talk about camp weeks later. Parents also describe the staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion for outdoor activities, and they note that their children were active every day and learning to enjoy what Colorado has to offer.
