About
Kayaking Camp Wash Park focuses on kayaking skills, including paddling independently and as a team, learning basic strokes, and maneuvering Jackson Whitewater Kayaks. Campers practice rescue techniques, river reading, water safety, kayaking hand signals, wet exits, and build both flatwater skills and knowledge and skills in moving water. Campers get comfortable with fitting their equipment before paddling, and kayaking locations depend on water levels and group ability, with transportation provided to and from recreation areas.

Each session runs Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM, with extended care available from 8 AM to 5:30 PM, including early drop off starting at 8 AM and after care pick up from 3 to 5:30 PM. Campers are grouped by grade range, either 2nd–4th graders or 5th–7th graders, and should have previous experience paddling in standing or moving water, feel fully comfortable on open water, and be comfortable being fully submerged in water for short periods of time. The camp may move a camper to a different program or remove the camper from the group and offer a credit if minimum skill requirements are not met, and the program is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee.
Avid4 Adventure provides access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids and uses kid-friendly Jackson Whitewater Kayaks. Every activity starts with a discussion about risks, prevention, and response. Campers go out on both flatwater and whitewater, and the program offers individualized attention as campers deepen technical skills.
The staff includes highly qualified instructors and an incredibly well-trained and professional team. All Avid4 instructors are 18 and older with safety and skills training, and the leadership team has experience in youth development, outdoor education, and operations. The founder, David Secunda, is a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry, leading a seasoned team of adventurers and educators. Avid4 Adventure is a premium camp that hires high-class outdoor educators and is committed to paying them a fair wage.
Avid4 Adventure states that it was born out of a desire to give kids a love of outdoor activity and to ensure the future caretaking of the planet. Programs evolve as campers grow from age 3 to 17, and the summer camps are described as highly acclaimed.
