About

Kayaking Day Camp – Wash Park focuses on kayaking and paddling, and also includes mountain biking, rock climbing, and hiking. Campers spend their first two or three days learning flatwater skills, getting comfortable with fitting their equipment, using kayaking hand signals, making wet exits, and maneuvering Jackson Whitewater Kayaks before they paddle in moving water. Kayaking sessions take place on both flatwater and whitewater, with locations depending on water levels and group ability, and campers are grouped by grade range, either 2nd–4th graders or 5th–7th graders.

• Ages: 7–12 years old
• Schedule: One-week sessions, Monday–Friday
• Price: One Week Price $740; Early Drop Off - Starting at 8 AM $35; After Care - Pick up 3-5:30PM $105

The camp runs in one-week sessions from Monday through Friday, with core camp hours from 9 AM to 3 PM and extended care available from 8 AM to 5:30 PM. Campers are expected to have some previous experience paddling in standing or moving water and to feel fully comfortable on open water and being fully submerged in water for short periods of time. If a camper does not meet the minimum skill requirement, the camp may move the camper to a different program if space is available or remove the camper from the group and offer a credit. Campers get access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids, including kid-friendly Jackson Whitewater Kayaks, and transportation is provided to and from recreation areas.

The program is part of Avid4 Adventure, which states a mission that kids build confidence, make new friends, and master essential skills in activities like paddling, biking, rock climbing, and hiking. Avid4 Adventure notes that programs evolve as campers grow, from age 3 through 17. The camp is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which promises an authentic outdoor adventure, well-trained and professional staff, and increased confidence, and if these promises are not met, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free.

Instructors are described as insatiable outdoors experts who love adventuring and working with kids, are all 18 and older, and have safety and skills training. The leadership team is led by David Secunda, former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. The summer camps are accredited by the American Camp Association, have been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps, and Avid4 Adventure is a Certified B Corp. Avid4 Adventure operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service and is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Parent testimonials describe campers learning new outdoor skills, including a camper who learned to ride a bike without training wheels during camp, and note that staff are mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with kids. Other testimonials state that campers talk about the camp well after it ends and that they were active every day and learning how to enjoy what Colorado has to offer.
