About
Rock Climbing Camp – Wash Park focuses on rock climbing skills including climbing, bouldering, belaying, rappelling, and tying knots at local crags. Campers practice climbing safety and ethics, climbing commands, proper spotting, and hazard identification, along with footwork and body positioning techniques. They also work with equipment setup, traditional gear placement, identifying natural anchors, and getting comfortable with carabiners, stoppers, camalots, and belay devices.

Camp hours run from 9 AM to 3 PM, with extended care available from 8 AM to 5:30 PM. Campers are taken out daily to climb at area crags with a range of rock types, styles, and difficulty levels, and transportation to and from recreation areas is provided. Campers use top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids.
Instructors are all 18 and older and have serious safety and skills training, and they are described as insatiable outdoors experts who love adventuring and working with kids. The leadership team includes founder David Secunda, who is a former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and has 25 years of experience in the outdoor education industry. The program states the mission, “We believe in the transformative power of the outdoors.”
Campers are grouped by grade range, either 2nd–4th graders or 5th–7th graders, and there are no prerequisite skills or experience needed. Programs with this organization evolve as campers grow from age 3 to 17. The camp is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which promises an authentic outdoor adventure, incredibly well-trained and professional staff, and increased confidence, and if these promises are not met, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free for the family.
The organization’s summer camps are accredited by the American Camp Association and have been named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps. Avid4 Adventure is a Certified B Corp, operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service, and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Discounts include a Multi-Session/Sibling discount of $25 off per session after the first, a Referral Program where families can give friends $50 off their first camp and receive a $50 coupon for a future 2026 camp when the friend makes a purchase, and a Service Discount of $65 off for qualifying professions.

Another parent, Molly Marienthal, said in September 2023 that her child wanted her to come see everything she learned each day and described the staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with kids. A third parent, Suzanne Dayton, said in September 2023 that her kids had the best time at camp, still talked about it over a month later, and were active every day learning how to enjoy what Colorado has to offer.
