About
Kayaking Day Camp – Golden introduces campers to kayaking and paddling, along with additional activities that can include mountain biking, biking, hiking, rock climbing, and stand up paddle board. Campers spend their first two or three days learning flatwater skills, getting comfortable with fitting their equipment, using kayaking hand signals, making wet exits, and maneuvering kid-friendly Jackson Whitewater Kayaks before they paddle in moving water. The program uses top-of-the-line, professional-caliber gear specifically sized for kids and provides transportation to and from recreation areas.

Kayaking Day Camp – Golden runs as a 1-week session from Monday through Friday, with camp hours from 9 AM to 3 PM and extended care available from 8 AM to 5:30 PM. Campers are grouped by grade range, either 2nd–4th graders or 5th–7th graders, and receive individualized attention as they develop confidence and deepen their technical skills. Campers spend their first two or three days learning flatwater skills before moving to whitewater, and kayaking summer camps take campers out on both flatwater and whitewater.
The program states that Kayaking Day Camp campers should have some previous experience paddling in standing or moving water, should feel fully comfortable on open water, and should be comfortable being fully submerged in water for short periods of time. If a camper does not meet the minimum skill requirement, the camp reserves the right to move a camper to a different program if space is available or remove the camper from the group and offer a credit. This camp is backed by the Avid4 Adventure Guarantee, which promises to provide an authentic outdoor adventure, incredibly well-trained and professional staff, and increased confidence, and if Avid4 Adventure does not meet these promises, the next Avid4 Adventure camp is free.
Avid4 Adventure describes itself as the home of multi-sport adventure, with programs that evolve as campers grow from age 3 to 17 and summer camps that are highly acclaimed. The organization states that it was born out of a desire to give kids a love of outdoor activity and to ensure the future caretaking of the planet, and that camps build kids’ skills, confidence, grit, and determination. Avid4 Adventure teaches campers solid skills, including sound judgment and problem-solving, and says that campers come away filled with confidence, enriched with newfound skills, and launched into a lifetime of empowering outdoor adventure.
The staff is described as a seasoned team of adventurers and educators, led by David Secunda, former president of the Outdoor Industry Association and a 25-year veteran of the outdoor education industry. All instructors are 18 and older, with serious safety and skills training, and Avid4 Adventure states that it hires the most committed, experienced instructors and uses professional-caliber equipment. The camps are accredited by the American Camp Association, named among Colorado Parent’s Top 5 Sports Camps, and Avid4 Adventure is a Certified B Corp committed to public transparency and accountability.
Avid4 Adventure operates under a Special Use authorization from the National Forest Service and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. The organization notes that it transports campers to authentic local recreation areas and that campers get access to top-of-the-line gear specifically sized for kids. Avid4 Adventure also states that its summer camps are highly acclaimed.
Parent testimonials describe campers learning new outdoor skills and wanting to return. One parent in September 2023 shared that their child had never done activities like stand up paddle board, kayaking, and biking before camp, and that these became the child’s favorite activities, including learning to ride a bike without training wheels during camp. Another parent in September 2023 described the staff as mature, responsible, and excited to share their passion with kids, and called it a well-run program where kids learn new outdoor skills. A third parent in September 2023 said their kids had “the best time” at camp, were active every day, and were learning how to enjoy what Colorado has to offer.
