About

Flag Star Football offers flag football leagues and related programs, including summer camp, Girls' Programs, an Elite League, and a Summer Commanders Camp. The program includes partnerships with the Washington Commanders and hosts multiple summer camp locations across the DMV. It is described as Washington, DC’s Top Youth Flag Football Program and welcomes boys and girls at all experience levels, from all-stars to flag football beginners, in low-pressure environments where kids can just play with positive coaches, supportive parents, and compassionate referees.

• Ages: 5–16 years old

Most Flag Star Football summer camps are open to rising 2nd–7th graders (boys and girls), with select sites offering focused groups for 2nd–5th graders, 6th–9th graders (referred to as “Old Dawgs”), and Girls-Only sessions for 3rd–8th graders. The ‘Elite’ league is for rising 4th–10th graders. The program includes 11 locations around Washington, DC where kids can play flag football and multiple summer camp locations across the DMV.

Flag Star Football states that it is an eco-system where kids can Get Better and Have Fun, and that at the core of the organization, that is what it is about. The Commissioner, Carl Ehrlich, captained the Harvard Football team and played “professional” football in Valencia, Spain. The program is run in conjunction with the Flag Star Football Foundation and The Next Game Project LLC, which are described as proud partners of the Flag Star Football Foundation, working to provide all young athletes the opportunity to play, learn and grow. The organization states that every kid deserves a chance to play and that it has a policy of never turning a kid away, with 0 kids ever turned away due to money and 2,845 scholarships provided in 2025, and that scholarships provide financial assistance to those in need.

Parent feedback includes comments that Flag Star Football is “by far the most organized, well-managed league we have ever joined,” with “top-notch” coaching and a child who has “learned an incredible amount” and “has fun,” from Jennifer Bernstein. Another Flag Star parent says, “We are beyond thrilled with Flagstar – it’s exceeded all our expectations.” Kiersten Campbell describes Flag Star Football as “the absolute highlight of our sports schedule” with “a ton of positive energy, great coaching and — most importantly — FUN.” Tom Repke from Virginia says, “Great people, great sport, great energy! I cannot say enough good things.”
