Campus KidCare is an enrichment program created by the Polk County School System and local child care providers. It operates during the school year at participating sites as well as during Summer Camp. Staff, volunteers, and specialists work within a staff-to-child ratio of 1:17, and each Campus KidCare site has its own telephone. The program provides a nutritious snack each afternoon and homework help so there is more time for family at home. It is open to a limited number of children and is designed to be safe, accessible, affordable, and developmentally sound, offering a top quality program that costs less because overhead is covered by existing school facilities. SSYFS Campus KidCare is described as an enrichment program created by the Polk County School System and local child care providers, and it was developed because parents requested an after school child care activity club. The program description states that Campus KidCare is designed to care for each child safely and to give each child “that little extra” educationally, socially, culturally, emotionally, and academically.
