Junior Golf Summer Camp – Half Day Camp focuses on core golf skills such as hitting the ball in the air, hitting the ball at a target, curving the ball, and hitting the ball far. Campers also play competitive games using hockey sticks, soccer balls, and velcro 12 foot dart boards as part of the daily activities. Half Day Camp is Level I of three Summer Camps offered at The Golf Practice and is for beginners or students with limited experience.
• Ages: 5–12 years old
• Schedule: Monday–Friday half-day camps, 9:00am–12:00pm
• Price: $435 per week Highland Park Resident; $450 per week non resident
All camps are Monday–Friday, and each student finishes at noon each day and is prepared for pickup no later than 12:05pm. The student-teacher ratio is 5:1. Ages 5–12 may use rental clubs, which can be purchased for an additional $25. In 2023, four of the top six ETHS Boys Varsity team members were Half Day Campers when they were younger and began learning golf, and over the years numerous golfers have graduated from Half Day Camps to more competitive programs, including 5 students who currently participate in the Mastery 360 College Prep program.
The professional golf coaches at The Golf Practice have developed the camp curriculum over a 30 year period, blending teaching the fundamentals of the game with a game based experience. The leadership team includes Peter Donahue, PGA Founder; Chris Oehlerking, PGA Owner | Dean of Instruction; Alex Prior, PGA Owner | Director of Operations; Jantzen Miserak, PGA Director of Instruction | Fitness Expert; Andy Hayes, Director of Instruction; Steve Schreck, Senior Coach; Peter Leinenweber, Senior Coach; Caleb Nilsen, Lead Coach; Zach Bussman, Operations Lead; Rob Anderson, Director of Operations and Finance; Dasa Urbankova, Director of Mental Performance | Senior Coach; Danny Barragan, Certified Coach; Zach Hayes, Lead Coach; George Storton, Certified Coach; Tanner Mack, Operations Lead; and Olivia Kerr, Certified Coach. The Golf Practice started at Canal Shores in 2014 with 5 kids in a Fall beginner clinic. The Golf Practice states that fascination is the most important thing for improvement, and that students learn more quickly and retain information better when they are first fascinated by what they are doing.
The Golf Practice is a PGA recognized academy and is a proud partner of U.S. Kids Golf. Testimonials from parents and students describe knowledgeable, professional instruction, excellent programming for different levels of golfers, and coaching that evaluates all areas of a player’s game using multiple performance data points. Additional testimonials mention mindfulness training through M360’s Mindfulness program, detailed swing analysis, and coaching that addresses where students need to improve and what they need to do to attain their goals.
