Music Makers of Western Springs was founded in 1978 and is owned and operated by Jeremy and Gwen Michor, a husband and wife team. It is a family owned, full-service music school with a brand new, modern school building and teaching facilities, teaching studios with observation windows, and a spacious, parent-friendly waiting area with comfortable chairs, free WiFi, filtered water, and coffee, tea, and hot chocolate service. The school has over 30 teachers on staff with university training from some of the most prestigious colleges in the country and years of professional teaching and performing experience, and its strings teachers are classically trained and use a combination of Suzuki, Sassmanshaus, and other traditional methods. The program describes its musical theatre program as award winning and as a no-cut program where all students are cast in a role, appear in multiple scenes and songs, and are cast based on many factors including auditions and callbacks for each specific show, with no precasting and no rewarding of bigger parts based on past roles or participation. Tuition for the theatre program is all-inclusive and covers weekly classes, primary costumes, a libretto book or script, an MMT tote bag, a show t-shirt, and access to all digital production photos from a professional photographer, and performances feature professional set design, costuming, lighting, and sound.

Music Makers of Western Springs states that it strives to provide exceptional music education to each student, whether a child or adult, beginner or advanced, and that it believes music education should be a positive, inclusive, and engaging experience that instills a lifelong love and passion for learning and performing music. Its theatre program states that it imitates the process of professional theatre and aspires to help students build self-confidence, self-discipline, and responsibility as they become educated on the overall theatrical performance process, and it states that it hopes students make new friends and have fun. The school notes that multiple family members can take lessons on different instruments on the same day at the same location, that lessons are available seven days a week with flexible hours and scheduling, that parents are welcome to sit in on their child’s lesson at any time, and that professional office staff are available to assist. It offers month-to-month lessons with no semester or quarterly minimums, the option for one to two trial lessons with no enrollment fee until commitment, instrument rentals of keyboards and guitars at $25.00 per month, online Zoom lessons, communication opt-in via SMS/MMS for reminders and information, and student recitals twice a year that are free of charge to family and friends. Music Makers of Western Springs describes itself as having a proven track record of excellence, being trusted by thousands of families, and serving neighboring communities as a partner school with FHSR, whose Music To My Ears scholarship program provides a year of tuition-free music instruction for deaf and hard of hearing children.
