IU Children's Choir was founded in 1980 by Dr. Mary Goetze and Dr. Jean Sinor and is part of the Jacobs Academy, which consolidates pre-college programs, adult non-curricular programs, and community engagement projects under one umbrella. The mission of the Indiana University Children's Choir is to teach young people to value and experience excellent singing through musical activities that develop skills, sharing, self-expression, and personal growth, and to introduce children to the western tradition of choral music along with a wide variety of musical cultures from around the world. The leadership team includes program director and Allegro Choir instructor Dr. Brent Gault, First Voices conductor Amy Hartzell Price, Descant Choir conductor Emma Lamberti, Allegro Choir conductor Dr. Brent Gault, and Chamber Choir conductor Haeun Choi. Staff credentials include university-level training and degrees in music education, choral conducting, church music, and related fields, as well as specialized training such as Conversational Solfege and Kodaly Certification. Families interested in First Voices do not attend placement sessions but complete registration materials, and those seeking need-based financial aid indicate this on the registration form and submit required documents through a secure upload link after registering and paying the registration fee.
