About
Musical Beginnings is an early childhood music and movement program where children take part in singing, movement, listening, playing, and creating music. Classes include developmentally appropriate activities and focus on joyful music-making through these specific experiences. The program includes two course options called Cycle of Seasons and BloomingSongs.
• Ages: 0–5 years old
• Schedule: Spring 2026 semester classes run from February to May, with BloomingSongs and Cycle of Seasons meeting once a week in 30-minute sessions
• Price: Tuition ranges from $155 to $190 per semester, with a $50 non-refundable enrollment deposit credited toward tuition
For Spring 2026, Cycle of Seasons classes begin Monday, February 16, and BloomingSongs classes begin Tuesday, February 17, with no classes from March 16–20 for Spring Break. Cycle of Seasons concludes Monday, April 27, and BloomingSongs concludes Tuesday, April 28. The Cycle of Seasons spring semester runs February 23–May 4, 2026, meeting Mondays from 5:30–6:00 PM, and the BloomingSongs spring semester runs February 24–May 5, 2026, meeting Tuesdays from either 5:00–5:30 PM or 5:45–6:15 PM. Access to audio and activities is included in the tuition for both Cycle of Seasons and BloomingSongs, and registration for each course is limited to 10 participants. Need-based financial aid is available for the fall and spring semesters.
Musical Beginnings is led by a team that includes director Abby Furr, instructor Kollin Klinger, assistant Solein Lopez, and assistant You-Ling Wang. Abby Furr has been teaching music to students from babies to teens for over a decade, holds a Bachelor’s degree in voice and a Master’s in Music Education from the Jacobs School of Music, and has Kodaly certification; she also teaches General Music at Unionville Elementary and offers private voice and piano lessons. You-Ling Wang is a second-year Ph.D. student from Taiwan specializing in general music education at the Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University, and serves as an Associate Instructor there, teaching the course “Teaching Music in the Elementary Classroom.” Musical Beginnings is part of the Jacobs Academy, which is embedded in the communities of both the Jacobs School of Music and Bloomington and offers pre-college and adult students a chance to be part of communities that value and promote artful learning.
