• Ages: 3–12 years old
• Schedule: Open Monday through Friday with year-round programs (50 weeks), including school-day programs, after school options, and February, April, and summer sessions
Children's Enrichment Center operates with an innovative theme-based curriculum and studio workshops that include creative programs in reading, writing, art, technology, languages, movement, and music. The program uses a holistic approach that includes the whole child and follows the Creative Curriculum approach, which emphasizes that young children learn best by doing. Classrooms include a Library/Writing Center, table activities, blocks/building area, sand and water play, art and creative space, and a dramatic play corner. The After School Enrichment program uses a monthly thematic approach, such as Colonial America, with history, hands-on arts and crafts, and field trips to historical sites, along with weekly enrichment and character building workshops. Homework support is offered Monday through Thursday for an hour in the After School Program, and children are required to sign a homework log daily when homework is completed.
The Center has been in operation since 2000 and expanded in 2008 to serve preschool, pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, and school-age children, now serving 80 children. Children's Enrichment Center operates year-round for 50 weeks with two weeks closed for Winter Recess and Summer Recess, and the summer program begins the first week of July with two sessions. Tuition is waived during Winter and Summer Recess, and for school-age children in 1st grade and up during February and April vacation weeks if they choose not to attend, and separate registration is required for the summer and school vacation programs. Transportation is available through the Mansfield School Department Transportation Office, which can drop children off at the Center as a daily location.
Children's Enrichment Center is an EEC (Early Education and Care) state licensed program and has been accredited by NAEYC (National Accreditation for the Education of Young Children) for a second five-year accreditation. Day programs are taught and managed by senior teachers with at least five years of experience who are EEC certified to lead a class, and junior teachers come from local colleges and high school programs and are trained and supervised by senior teachers. All teachers are trained in First Aid and CPR and complete several hours of ongoing training each year. Each staff member must pass the MA Office of Early Education and Care screening, including security CORI and reference checks, and the child-to-teacher ratio is ten to one in each group, with an assistant assigned when the ratio exceeds ten.
The leadership team includes Brenda Barrett, Owner/Founder and Director; Lorna McCormick, Co-Director; and Tatiana Fricano, Assistant Director. Brenda Barrett is a graduate of Harvard Graduate School of Education with over 20 years of experience in academic administration and began her literacy program as a community outreach bringing together children and families in weekly reading programs, which later grew into the current learning center serving Mansfield and neighboring communities.
Parents and children have shared written feedback such as thanks for enriching their children's lives, appreciation for the kindergarten learning experience, and positive comments about the tour, teachers, exposure to many cultures, and the environment at the Center. One family also expressed thanks for the hard and dedicated work done for staff, children, and parents.
