Founded in 2000 from the efforts of the Eastport Historical Society, Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park Education Programs operate within an award-winning museum. The mission of the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park is to educate youth and adults about the Annapolis area’s maritime heritage and the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay through programs, exhibits, and community events. The museum’s Education Center reaches more than 14,000 students and adults annually. The organization is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profit powered by more than 350 volunteers, with a volunteer board of 16 community members and a professional staff overseeing operations and long-range planning.
The Eastport community plays an important role in the museum, and the museum hosts regular events throughout the year. Box of Rain, a program of the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park, serves under-resourced youth ages 8–14 and connects them to the Chesapeake Bay through year-round programs. Since 2018, over 14,000 passengers have sailed aboard the historic skipjack Wilma Lee. The museum offers four free core programs as part of its educational work and is described as a major community asset serving Anne Arundel County and beyond.
