About

Youth Performance Company Classes & Camps offers theatre classes and theatre camps where participants take part in acting, singing, dancing, improv, and stage combat. Week-long options include both full-day and half-day theatre classes and camps.

• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Summer classes and camps run Monday through Friday, with week-long full and half-day sessions from June 15 – September 4, 2026.

Youth Performance Company was founded in 1989 by retired Artistic Director Jacie Knight. Its stated mission is: “YOUTH PERFORMANCE COMPANY EMPOWERS YOUTH AND INSPIRES SOCIAL CHANGE THROUGH BOLD THEATRE.” Young artists at Youth Performance Company participate in all aspects of creating performances, including writing, directing, building sets, and designing costumes. Youth Performance Company seeks diverse actors ages 12–22 and encourages actors of all ethnicities, cultures, gender identities, socioeconomic statuses, and abilities to audition. The organization notes that it provides opportunities for children from all income levels, races, and cultures. Wheelchair seating is available, and all seating is general admission, with groups seated first come, first served. The start time of a production can be changed to meet the needs of a group purchasing a full house of 207 seats, and the approximate length of a show is one hour and twenty minutes, with show dates and times subject to change.

Youth Performance Company has received several recognitions, including the 2012 MN Council for Nonprofits Mission Award and multiple CINE Golden Eagle and Special Jury Awards for its DVDs “The BoyShow,” “Goddess Menses & the Menstrual Show,” and “The Talk: An Intercourse on Coming of Age.” Additional honors include Ivey Awards in 2006 and 2009, a 2009 Aware Award from MN CASA, a Chris Award from the 57th Annual Columbus International Film Festival, an Accolade Award of Merit for educational and instructional training, a Heal One World Festival Merit of Awareness Award, an Indie Award of Excellence for educational content, and a Bronze Telly Award for use of humor. This activity is supported by a Minnesota State Arts Board Operating Support grant, funded by a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
