Zen Penguin Swim School offers specialized, sensory-friendly lessons for autistic, ADHD, and neurodivergent swimmers, with a philosophy built on trust and bio-mechanics and an emphasis on nervous system regulation as important for learning to swim. The program states that it prioritizes inclusion from the start and offers swim lessons for all ages and levels. Private Pool Lessons provide 1-on-1 instruction with no other swimmers in the pool. Staff at Zen Penguin Swim School have 20+ years of combined experience, and staff are paid a thriving wage. The owner is Penny.

The mission statement for Zen Penguin Swim School is: “Where the water is for every-body, & every brain! Discover the joy of swimming at Zen Penguin Swim School! Specialized, sensory-friendly lessons crafted with care for our autistic, ADHD and neurodivergent community. Our philosophy is built on a foundation of trust and bio-mechanics. We believe that the water is for everybody, so we prioritize inclusion from the start, rather than treating marginalized identities like an after-thought. Zen Penguin Swim School is not just a place to learn to swim - it's a community where you, and your swimmer are taken care of, and belong.”

Zen Penguin Swim School runs a self-funded scholarship program that uses part of the monthly subscription to help community members access swim lessons they may not otherwise be able to afford, and it is on track to provide over $140,000 in scholarship funds in 2025.

One parent, Erin, shared that her children named back floating and their instructor as their favorite parts of lessons and described the environment as calm and welcoming. A swimmer named Jillian said, “When I first looked at the waters of a pool, it seemed very dangerous like it was going to drown me. Now it feels like it is my friend.” Another parent, Ayn, said their kids learned more swimming with Penny and her teachers in a few months than in all other lessons combined and described the teachers as caring, compassionate, and letting the child take the lead.
