No Illusions Jiu Jitsu has been serving the Brookings area since 2017 and provides martial arts classes to the Brookings, Volga, Watertown, Madison, and Lake Benton communities. The leadership team includes Cary Bingham, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt under “Comprido” Medieros and Bruce Hoyer with Team Brasa, a brown belt in Judo, and an active competitor; Jordan Soukup, the Muay Thai head instructor and an active competitor; and Logan Straub, a Jiu Jitsu competitor, Bobcat wrestler, and youth kickboxing instructor. The program’s mission states that it is dedicated to changing the lives of people one person at a time through martial arts, education, and coaching, and that it strongly believes martial arts can be for everyone regardless of age, gender, or experience level. The mission also states that students learn skill sets to protect themselves through a realistic and practical approach.
A free trial is offered, and an exclusive online-only offer is available. The program includes options for kids, teens, and adults, and parents are encouraged to watch their children in kids martial arts lessons or may choose to drop children off and leave during class. The training area has limited space, and there is a limited-time offer connected to that space. Families are instructed to make sure students wear comfortable clothes suitable for sports and to bring a water bottle.
Testimonials describe an “amazing vibe,” fun technical rolls, a highly knowledgeable instructor, and a very clean facility. Other testimonials describe a safe and comfortable environment, a great gym with great people, and note that coaches, including Jordan, work with students regardless of experience or strength.
