Steve & Kate's Camp started in 1980, when Steve and Kate Susskind created a summer camp in response to what they saw as kids’ precious independence slipping away. At Steve & Kate's, campers choose which activities they do, whom they do it with, and for how long. The mission states that all year long kids are in rigid structure, and that in summer the camp gives them freedom to expand and evolve, and a setting where they are empowered, independent, resilient, and responsible for their own decisions.
The Everett camp’s director is Janel. The program includes summer day camps for kids aged 4–12, and also offers holiday camps for kids ages 4–12. Parents can buy any number of days or day passes, send their child to camp any day within the season, and receive automatic refunds for any unused days or passes at the end of summer. Drop-off and pick-up can happen at any time within the 8:00am–6:00pm camp hours, and long camp hours are included. Meals and snacks are included, and cuisine includes rotating specials along with healthy snacks and sides that kids can grab whenever they want. In partnership with fan favorite restaurants, the camp serves items such as piping hot pizza, Caesar salads, tangy tomato soup, and more.
The camp features Weekly Specials that may include giant inflatables, musical performances, movement workshops, or popup petting zoos, with the exact 2026 lineup to be announced. There is a Carnival Day on the last day of camp with carnival games, extra treats, and chances to win prizes. The program has Youngest Camper Support Staff dedicated specifically to supporting the youngest campers. Additional state-required paperwork must be submitted for every child before their first day of camp.
Testimonials about Steve & Kate’s Camp include comments from Andrew Stanton, director of WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory, who says that children at the camp blossom and discover a freedom of identity and that kids find their thumbprint there. Apple’s Hot News states that if kids ruled the world, it might look something like Steve & Kate’s Camp. Variety magazine notes that the camp did not set out to cater to children of people at Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic, but that many attend given the camp’s philosophy. The Washington Post describes Steve & Kate’s as a blend of traditional camp with a modern, tech-savvy touch, with a laid-back aura and innovative approaches to programming and payment. The Chicago Tribune states that working parents’ worries dissipate as they contemplate Steve & Kate’s model.
As summer approaches, registered families receive an email with a link to a virtual camp orientation. This orientation provides information about local camp drop-off and pick-up procedures, how to check in and out each day, what to bring and not bring, and other camp details.
