The mission of University of Wisconsin–Madison Badger Precollege is to engage, encourage, and guide youth along a path to life readiness. The program offers precollege options for grades 4–12, including day and residential programs for grades 4–8 and immersive college-prep programs for students completing grades 9–12. Programs for middle school and high school musicians provide the opportunity to learn from experienced educators, enhance their skills, and create a community. Financial assistance is available for most programs, and many precollege programs offer scholarships and other forms of financial assistance. International students are welcomed and encouraged to apply for high school programs. UW–Madison is committed to the well-being, safety and protection of minors and follows specific youth protection policies, laws, licensing requirements and best practices. The program also shares information about sports camps, leadership summits, field trips, and other youth programs offered by UW–Madison partners, including Badger Sports Camps, Wisconsin 4-H, and the Language Institute. A Badger Summer Scholars student noted that, without credits involved, they could focus on learning rather than a specific grade and found enjoyment in simply learning rather than in getting a good grade.
