About

Summer Arts Clinic offers specific courses in contemporary dance, modern dance, ballet, acting, and a Forum Theatre Workshop. The program also includes hands-on activities such as exploring architecture through miniature models and designing small-scale pavilions that function as everyday objects like clothes hangers, chairs, or bookshelves. Students work on streetwear and sustainable style by exploring upcycled design through hip-hop, and they design and construct fashion-forward streetwear garments using moodboarding, illustrating, sewing, mending, dyeing, altering garments, creating croquis and sketch designs, making basic garment alterations, and using cyanotyping dyeing and printing on a tote bag.

Summer Arts Clinic invites young dancers, actors, designers, artists, creators, and arts enthusiasts of all experience levels and states that there is a creative path for everyone. Each path incorporates instruction in both small and large groups, explores a variety of artistic techniques, and centers student creativity. Participants may choose multiple courses for artistic variety or focus on a specific area, with sample paths of study that include dance; theater and drama such as acting, costume design, and technical theater; visual art; and fashion design and textiles. Each course offers the opportunity to perform or exhibit work on Saturday morning, the final day of the program, and all courses include a final performance, presentation, or demonstration on Saturday morning or afternoon, July 18, 2026. The program states that students can work with world-class artists at a major university, build an arts portfolio for college applications, learn about the college application process and experience, immerse themselves in learning on a college campus, and meet student-artists from other high schools. It is offered in person with residential or daily commuter options, and students choose their experience based on their goals.

Summer Arts Clinic works in partnership with the UW–Madison Division of the Arts. The program states that participants learn from experienced educators and arts professionals from UW–Madison and around the country. The mission of University of Wisconsin–Madison Badger Precollege is to engage, encourage, and guide youth along a path to life readiness. The program notes that students who are eligible for free or reduced lunch in Wisconsin may contact [email protected] if they are unable to pay the required registration fee during the registration process, and that scholarship funds are limited and allocated on a need-based process. It also states that international students are welcomed and encouraged to apply for high school programs. One Badger Summer Scholars student shared that, without credits involved, they could focus on learning rather than a specific grade and found enjoyment in simply learning rather than in getting a good grade.
