North County Mavericks High School Development Program offers baseball instruction that includes hitting lessons, pitching lessons, fielding lessons, program wide clinics, tryouts, and REC Ball. The program is part of North County Mavericks Baseball and is structured as a long-term developmental baseball program for 3rd through 8th graders.

• Ages: 8–13 years old

Established in 2009, the program states that it believes in leading and teaching players to be their best on and off the field, encouraging them to be leaders, good role models, and gentlemen. It states that it provides baseball instruction at the highest level, encourages good work ethic, and makes grades the priority, with the expectation that players work hard both on the field in baseball and off the field in their school work. The program notes that it is independent of any and all high schools and that it encourages participation in REC Ball and any positive learning environment.

The coaching staff and network consists of current high school coaches from across San Diego County, current collegiate coaches, and former MLB and collegiate players and coaches. The leadership group includes founder Jose Balderas (North County Mavericks, coach at La Costa Canyon High School), along with coaches and assistants such as Keaton Carattini, James Hayashi, Joey Burke, Carson Quinn, Chano Palomo, Cole Liniak, Justin Graeber, Tommy LaVake, Tanner Blough, Andrew Crane, Braden Mazone, Luke Willey, and Joseph Dolan, with roles ranging from 3rd through 8th grade coaches and various high school coaching positions. The program notes that NC Mavs coaches offer hitting and pitching lessons and program wide clinics.

The program describes its focus areas as coaching with high level baseball instruction, discipline through mental skills training related to elite habits and game longevity, a year-round structure that transitions players through 3rd to 8th grade teams, and learning life lessons and how to overcome everyday challenges through baseball. It reports that 250+ of its players have moved on to the high school level and 50+ to the college level, with 300+ high school players, 50+ college commits (including schools such as USD, Vanderbilt, UCLA, UCSD, Point Loma, Tufts, Occidental, Cal Lutheran, and Sonoma State), and 2 MLB draft picks (Tigers and Braves).

The program lists a partner, Tutor Tutor, for more information at www.TutorTutor.com and (760)560-6116. Parent and player testimonials describe the North County Mavericks as focusing on true development, not prioritizing winning over growth, emphasizing strong fundamentals, stressing the importance of working hard in the classroom first and being a student athlete, and teaching respect for the game, hustling, being a good teammate, and handling both victories and failures. Testimonials also state that the coaching staff instructs and develops young players through high level practices and game competition and describe the program as a training ground and stepping stone that prepares players for higher levels of baseball.
